Eleven Years of Strengthening Youth Program Quality

For the past eleven years, Reconcile has made a steady commitment to strengthening how we deliver programming, not just what we deliver. Workforce training is more than teaching skills. It is about creating environments where young people feel safe, supported, and ready to grow.

At the heart of this work is a clear understanding that environments shape outcomes. The Youth Program Quality Improvement framework, developed by the Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality, focuses on building learning spaces that are safe, supportive, interactive, and engaging. These elements are foundational to whether young people feel confident enough to participate, reflect, and lead as they prepare for employment and education pathways.

Locally, this framework is facilitated by the New Orleans Youth Alliance, a community-based intermediary that supports youth-serving organizations in strengthening program quality. Through this partnership, Reconcile has engaged in a continuous cycle of observation, reflection, feedback, and improvement. Year after year, we have examined our facilitation practices and adapted our approach to meet the evolving needs of young people.

The results of this long-term investment are measurable. Since 2020, Reconcile has tripled its graduation rate, paired 100% of Interns with a dedicated case manager and career coach, and built a 16-month experience that stretches from enrollment through one full year in a job or education pathway. Today, 86% of graduates connect to the workforce or further education, and more than 200 Alumni each year receive ongoing coaching, financial tools, and mentorship.

This March, the Weikart Center will be on site to document facilitation practices as part of a case study designed to strengthen training tools for youth workforce providers. The filming will capture real program moments, including Word of the Day discussions, workshops, and side-by-side Café training. By sharing our daily practice, we are contributing to a broader effort to elevate effective strategies that support strong youth development environments.

For more than a decade, we have invested in incremental improvements, adapting our execution to meet the needs of participants as they are today. By strengthening the quality of the environment, we strengthen outcomes. Young people build workforce skills, earn industry-recognized credentials, and grow in confidence as they prepare to contribute to our local economy.

Quality does not happen by accident. It is built intentionally, year after year, in partnership with a community committed to creating spaces where young people can learn, lead, and thrive.
