Walking With Young People as They Find Their Way

Young people come to Reconcile with talent, drive, and big goals for their future. What often makes the journey difficult is not ability, but the systems they must navigate. Finding steady work, securing childcare, accessing mental health support, or managing transportation can feel overwhelming while stepping into adulthood.

This is where social workers make a difference. March is National Social Work Month, a time to recognize professionals who strengthen individuals and communities. This year’s theme, “Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.”, reflects the steady work they do every day. At Reconcile, social workers help young people move through complex systems so opportunity becomes clear and reachable.

Miesha is one example. As a working parent, she was balancing employment, family responsibilities, and her own personal growth. With consistent support from her social worker, she navigated access to resources, strengthened her confidence, and clarified her next steps. Over the past year, she has also served as a community advisor in a pilot initiative focused on improving how youth-serving systems respond to young working parents. By sharing her lived experience, she helped shape changes that make pathways stronger for others.

At Reconcile, every Intern is paired with a dedicated case manager and career coach for a 16-month journey that continues into their first year in a job or education pathway. Social workers help create the stability and belonging that make growth possible.

When young people are supported as they navigate complex systems, they gain momentum. They discover purpose. They begin to shape not only their own future, but the systems around them. This National Social Work Month, we recognize the professionals who help make that transformation possible.
