A Person for Others
The Jesuits of the New Orleans Province held its Annual Homines Pro Aliis Award mass and luncheon on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Jesuit High School in Mid City.
Eleven extraordinary people were recognized for their outstanding service to their community, to the Church and to various Jesuit ministries in the New Orleans area. One of the individuals honored was Mr. Ray Bruce of the Loews New Orleans Hotel. Ray is the current Human Resources director at the Loews and had been proudly sponsored by Café Reconcile to receive the award.
The Homines Pro Aliis Award honors individuals who exemplify servant leadership, selflessness, care for others, volunteerism and who model Christian values, all of which Ray epitomizes. Since our partnership, Ray and the Loews have been identified as Reconcile’s most dedicated partner. Ray was first introduced to Café Reconcile while watching a local news story nearly three years ago and quickly called the café to form a partnership. He later described this as the “most important call” of his professional career.
As Director of Human Resources, Ray is responsible for hiring of all new staff members. Under his leadership, the Loews has hired nearly twenty of our graduates, totaling about 7% of the entire hotel staff. It would be difficult to not run into a former student while at the Loews.
Ray has not only helped Reconcile develop and implement improved partnership agreements but has instilled a sense of hope and pride in our graduates, making the Loews one of the most sought after internships among our students. Honest, compassionate and empowering, Ray makes an effort to know all of his employees by name and points out their efforts and accomplishments. Like a proud parent, he gets excited when he sees his workers thrive.
Ray believes in the youth of New Orleans and the mission of Café Reconcile. He lives every day knowing that he has changed many lives. We are honored to have him as a friend and partner and look forward to our continuing and valued relationship.
